On April 21, UNM President David J. Schmidly announced his decision to step down from the Presidency at the end of the 2011-12 academic year. The Board of Regents announces a national search to recruit the University's 21st president. Information about the process will continue to be posted on this web site.

Update: December 5, 2011 - The University of New Mexico Board of Regents has announced the names of five finalists:
"We're very pleased to have these five accomplished finalists seeking the presidency of UNM," said Jack Fortner, chair of the search committee and President of the UNM Board of Regents. "The search committee found them to be outstanding candidates with great enthusiasm for UNM and its future. We look forward to their campus visits over the next two weeks."
Update: October 13, 2011 - The Presidential Search committee met on October 11, 2011 to begin preliminary review of candidates and provide direction to the Search firm for prospective candidates. At the next meeting, scheduled for November 15, 2011, the committee will select semi-finalists to interview. After the semi-finalist interviews, the Board of Regents will select 5-8 finalists to bring to campus for interviews. This is expected to occur before Winter Break. Our new President is expected to be identified in January and will begin in summer 2012.
